DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:This family-friendly event features a 5K run and 1 mile fun walk. For those not quite ready for a run, bring your little ones or a friend to walk a mile through the Zoo. "Arms and legs are not a luxury, they are a necessity,” said Erik Salazar, event chair. “We are so grateful for the support of these runners, and the Run sponsors and volunteers. Together, we can help amputees have a renewed participation in everyday life.”
Advanced registration fees are $25 for the 5K run or 1 mile fun walk. The fee will increase for race-day registration to $30. Groups of 20 or more are $20. Amputees can participate for free. The first 1,000 registered runners/walkers will receive a runner’s bag and t-shirt. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female runners. Up to two children, under the age of the age of 12 can participate free, per paid adult. One t-shirt and one OKC Zoo ticket is provided for each paid adult. The Zoo tickets are only good for RACE DAY ONLY.
Over 3,000 people in the United States will loss a limb every week, almost 18 per hour. Many of these amputees will be unable to afford prosthetic care due to lack of financial resources. Limbs for Life is the financial bridge for these amputees to receive a prosthetic limb. A prosthesis gives an amputee a renewed participation in everyday life.
