 – Science Museum Oklahoma, (SMO), and the Satellite Galleries are
excited to announce Soundscapes, with an opening reception Saturday,
February 9, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the Satellite Galleries.
This exhibition features the art of 11 established artists: Christie
Owen, Beatriz Mayorca, Christie Hackler, Jerrod Smith, Phil Danner,
Dustin Ragland, Chris Clark, Balam Soto, Dylan Bradway, Josh Heilaman
and Kyle Caldwell. This evening reception is free and open to the
public. The show will run until August 2nd, 2013.</p>

<p style="margin-right:.5in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:150%">&nbsp;</p><p style="margin-right:.5in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:150%">

These 11 artists, trained in the visual arts, have come out of their
comfort zone to present their sculptural work for Soundscapes, based on
the distinct relationship between the visual and aural domains of art
and perception for Soundscapes. All were given the task to create a
sound sculpture that can produce sound or vice versa, sound that can
create sculptural form or mass. These works mesh with the science of
auditory perception as it exists simultaneously as spatial and temporal,
and as action and object. </p>

<p style="margin-right:.5in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:150%">&nbsp;</p><p style="margin-right:.5in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:150%">

Artists were chosen by curator Scott Henderson for their display of
innovative thought, and their willingness to branch out of their
artistic norms. Alongside their sculptures will be accompanying artwork
that will relate to the central focus piece. None of the works on
display have been seen by the public, and were created solely for this
exhibition. Soundscapes is an all-ages show that will offer educational,
 hands-on experiences for the viewer.</p>

“Music can be a force that promotes creativity and inspiration,” said Dylan Bradway, Soundscapes Artist. “As an artist, I have always been more energized and productive while listening to music.”</p>

<p style="margin-right:.5in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:150%">&nbsp;</p><p style="margin-right:.5in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:150%">

“I have never been more excited for an art opening!” said Scott
Henderson, Galleries Director, SMO. “I have been working with the
artists and seeing the plans and pictures but have not been able to
interact, touch, see, and hear the finished pieces. This is a show I
feel very proud to present, because of the challenge given and the
dedication of each artist involved to follow through and create
something that exemplifies science, art, and wonder.”</p>
