‘Tech’ crunch

Presenting the R&R DVD Gift Guide, Part 2.

Happy Cyber Monday! Guess that means you survived Black Friday’s greed stampede. And now that holiday season is into full swing, I continue pimping some DVD releases that should not be overlooked for gift possibilities. While not for everyone, certainly there’s somebody on your list who might appreciate such a disc. Today, we get robotic with “Robotech: The Complete Original Series.” At a ridiculous 17 discs, the limited-edition box set contains all 85 episodes — hence “Complete” — of the 1980s animated fave named as No. 34 of the “Top 50 Sci-Fi Series of All Time,” by no less an authority than IGN.com. (Yes, that’s stated with some sarcasm.)

Now, something like this that clocks in at more than 32 hours isn’t for just any ol’ cartoon fan, but specifically, the anime nut, provided that he or she (read: he) didn’t already pre-order the thing.

Four bonus discs include some of the 10 hours of bonus content, which includes documentaries, music videos, alternate versions, original pilots, deleted scenes, toy commercials, character bios, model sheets, comic book covers, merchandise galleries and the proverbial “much more.”

The DVD set is available now at a suggested retail price of $99.95. Just look how happy the guy below is! —Rod Lott
