Looks like 2013 will be colorful, judging from Tribes 131’s calendar. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, the gallery at 131 24th Ave. N.W. in Norman hosts its 19th annual calendar signing. With the American Indian artists’ signatures, the months become that much more valuable! Calendars are $15 each. Call 329-4442 or visit tribes131.com.

Ring in 2013 with a few rounds of Thunder! Your favorite NBA team storms Chesapeake Energy Arena, 100 W. Reno, at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday and next Wednesday, to face off against, respectively, the Brooklyn Nets, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. There will be blood. When experimental rock’s Tallows takes the stage, don’t fret.

Fret-tapping is an alternate way of playing guitar that creates very percussive rhythms out of melodic sounds. Instead of strumming each note, the guitar player taps a finger from the fretting hand against each note on the fretboard. The mesmerizing rapid hand movements are a neat side benefit.

Horse Thief’s act of draping an Oklahoma flag over one of its amp stands may have just been a proud statement of local love, but it is also a reflection of its wide-open, rootsy, rock ’n’ roll sound. The band describes itself as a “psychedelic folk rock band,” and that description isn’t bad, either.
