Beautiful Creatures

More paranormal activity among teens with romance on their minds.

Drama

Rod Lott
I'm beginning to think that YA stands not for "young adult," but "yet another" β€” as in yet another book-based, supernatural-tinged teen romance to emerge in Twilight's wake. Beautiful Creatures is one of them. It's much better than Twilight, but hell, what's not?

New Zoo revue

With new management and upgrades, the iconic Zoo Amphitheatre venue returns to rock.

Music

Louis Fowler
As the bitter battle over management of the Zoo Amphitheatre played out in public last summer, Oklahoma City music fans may have worried whether the outdoor venue at 2011 N.E. 50th would be open for business this summer.

Prince of Darkness / Halloween: 35th Anniversary Edition

For horror, Carpenter build 'em best.

Horror

Rod Lott
So in John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness, a priest (Donald Pleasence, Halloween) calls up a professor (Victor Wong, Big Trouble in Little China) and says, "Hey, I've got this 2,000-year-old jar in the basement of this Catholic church downtown. Get this: It has the devil inside! Whaddaya say you round up some physics students to spend the weekend here and see if they can't figure out whassup?"

How to Seduce a Virgin

Not an instructional video β€” sorry, kiddos.

Drama

Rod Lott
One need not wait long for the really weird to rear its head in a Jess Franco flick. In the case of 1974's How to Seduce a Virgin, it's all of four minutes, when Martine flashes back to that time she cut off her lover's manhood with a straight razor β€” y'know, the good ol' days.

In Fear

Fear itself.

Thriller

Rod Lott
In Fear is a British take on that hoary Hollywood premise of two 20-somethings menaced by a third. Although the film is largely improvised, viewers will notice only one new thing about it: The hipsters at its center are en route to a music festival. Had Anchor Bay Entertainment wished to exploit that fact for the Blu-ray release, it could have retitled the film Bonnarubes, Coach-hella or Glastonburied.
