Simon and Garfunkel — Bridge Over Troubled Water: 40th Anniversary Edition

As close to a masterpiece as pop music gets

Pop

Rod Lott
I’m not sure I’d call Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” album the “masterpiece” as it packaging proclaims, since a couple of its tracks have never clicked with me, but it’s as damn close as pop music gets.

The Phantom of Hollywood

Andrew Lloyd Webber spectacle < made-for-TV treatment.

Thriller

Rod Lott
So simple is the story of Gaston Leroux's 1911 novel, "The Phantom of the Opera," that it continues to be remade on stage and screen. More interesting, however, are not its adaptations, but those that tweak the setting to more contemporary, even oddball venues.

Shaft: The TV Movie Collection / The Man from U.N.C.L.E.: 8-Movie Collection

Get 'Shaft'ed and cry 'U.N.C.L.E.' with these TV sets.

Television series

Rod Lott
Richard Roundtree is there, and so is Isaac Hayes' iconic, Oscar-winning theme, but "Shaft: The TV Movie Collection" isn't quite the "Shaft" of the 1970's feature-film trilogy. The operative word there: "TV," which means little of the R-rated shenanigans that made the character so popular.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation — Grave Danger

Whooooo are you? Quentin Tarantino.

Television series

Rod Lott
In inversion relation to his relationship with film, Quentin Tarantino's track record in television has been less than stellar.

It’s not cool to make fun of someone’s body. It’s less cool to do it in print ... especially if you want to keep your job.
