The Fabulous St. Knicholas Cage — Shit Surf

Rock

Joshua Boydston
The landlocked state of Oklahoma might not seem the most likely breeding ground for excellent surf-punk bands, but it’s bore more than a few in recent years, although none so fabulously named as Tulsa’s The Fabulous St. Knicholas Cage.

Questionably Fabulous

A “rib-tickling” riff on the Bible includes an adults-only parody with Adam and Steve. It also has at least one state lawmaker furious.

Known for its diverse stage presentations, the OKC Theatre Company describes its upcoming holiday show, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, as a “rib-tickling, satirical take on selected stories from the Bible.” One local legislator is not so amused.

Most Fabulous donation

One believer donated $100 for each religious leader who signed the petition against the show, organizers said. That’s $7,400.

Making headlines the past couple of weeks has been a small play by OKC Theatre Company and a letter from a group of pastors demanding the play be closed. The ruckus over The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told has actually resulted in the theater company receiving several large donations. Artistic Director Rachel Irick said an anonymous donor contributed $7,400. That’s $100 for every pastor’s name on the letter.
