Harry Connick Jr. — In Concert on Broadway

Connick is on fire, and his band plays like maniacs.

Jazz

Do you miss the era where Frank Sinatra was the biggest thing around? Do you pine over the days when the musical was king in pop culture? Are you already a fan of Harry Connick Jr., who apparently never left those days?

Cyd Charisse was that rare Hollywood actress who got parts not because she was pretty, but because she was pretty and an excellent dancer.

Meatball mecca

Unpretentious pastas, pizza and salads are served in an appealingly intimate dining room at Gaberino’s in Norman.

Restaurant Reviews

Doug Hill
Right across the street from Norman’s Borders bookstore, Gaberino’s is a welcome addition to the side of town where choices such as the homogenized likes of Red Lobster, On The Border and Olive Garden dominate.

Darla with a Z

Oklahoma crooner carries the torch for a live TV special.

Oklahoma City’s own female Frank Sinatra, Darla Zuhdi, is preparing for a huge television special, “Darla Z Live from Las Vegas.”

To be shot at her 4 p.m. performance Sept. 22 at South Point Casino in Las Vegas, the special will air multiple times on the syndicated AMGTV network, Dish Online and other national and international broadcast outlets. All told, at least more than 54.2 million viewers will have a shot at seeing the 405’s Wayne Newton-approved crooner in action. Despite the “Live” in the title, it won’t begin airing until November.

Zuhdi started her singing career in 2005, opening for none other than Willie Nelson. Her latest CD is “Live in Concert,” recorded with Bob Rozario, her musical director and conductor. A famed jazz pianist in his own right, Rozario’s previous clients include Dick Clark, Bobby Darin  and Tony Orlando.
