Second Saturday

Head to Guthrie for some late shopping

Guthrie is making the most of the long days with Second Saturday, a once-a-month event that shines a light on the quaint town’s shops and restaurants. Every second Saturday of the month (this weekend), shops will stay open until at least 8 p.m., plus stay open the next day (that’d be a Sunday) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Downtown Guthrie’s shopping area is really walkable, with shops along Oklahoma, Harrison and Division, so this is a great opportunity to make a weekend out of it by adding a night at one of the town’s many Victorian B&Bs. The weekend culminates on Sunday afternoon with a tea dance ($10) inside the old Santa Fe Depot.

The tea dance runs from 2:30 to 5 p.m. with music from the Al Good Orchestra, but there are free dance lessons offered at 2 p.m.

If you visit this weekend, be sure to check out the Bow Wow Luau, an annual fundraiser to benefit the Friends of Guthrie Animals. Proceeds go to Logan County’s spay and neuter program.

The Bow Wow Luau is held at Acton’s on Harrison Street, and tickets are $10. There will be live entertainment, raffles and a wine pull, plus a Hawaiian-themed meal.
