Battle: Los Angeles

Plot? Who needs plot? Let's shoot aliens.

Science Fiction

Rod Lott
One needs more than two hands to count the numerous other films from which “Battle: Los Angeles” has been cobbled: “Independence Day,” “Cloverfield,” “Starship Troopers,” “Transformers,” “Aliens,” “Predator,” “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem” and any movie in which bullet casings fall to the ground in slow motion, to name just a few.

As we approach our Independence Day, you’re probably in one of three camps.

’Crack down

CFN

As a POTUS-playing Bill Pullman put it so eloquently in the 1996 razzle-dazzler Independence Day, “We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on. We’re going to survive. Today, we celebrate our independence day!” Heck, that’s rousing enough for us to reach for our (illegal) box of Roman candles, burst out into a chorus of “American, F--k Yeah” (from the movie Team America, which does not star Pullman but does contain deviant puppet sex) and demonstrate our love of country by shooting one another with flaming balls of fire.

And yet despite the protestations of safety experts (see the previous CFN item, slacker), Oklahomans remain a bunch of pyromaniacs.
