Crimewave

We find it guilty ... of being underseen!

Comedy

Rod Lott
I’m the weird guy who saw Sam Raimi’s Crimewave before I saw Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead. Four or five times.

RED 2

Better dead than ‘RED.’

Action

Zach Hale
Nobody in their right mind would mistake 2010's RED for high art. The film was a harmless, mildly entertaining caricature of a summer blockbuster that provided a fair amount of laughs and a hefty amount of explosions. Any notion of plot played second fiddle to graphic absurdity, but it at least bumbled about with a little bit of charm and charisma.

The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec

‘Extraordinary,’ indeed!

Action

Rod Lott
How ironic that un film par Luc Besson — the Frenchman behind such action smashes as the Taken and The Transporter series, among others — would fail to play American theaters, yet that’s what happened with The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec. The 2010 adventure finally sees the light of day on these shores from Shout! Factory; its absence from our multiplexes is not indicative of its quality.

Cassadaga

Year's worst title, but how's the movie?

Horror

Rod Lott
Cassadaga is better than its terrible title, but still an indie picture that's clearly out of whack. In a good way, it opens with a boy who so wants to be a girl, he employs scissors to achieve that goal. In a bad way, it then largely shoves all that business aside until the third act.
