Matt Stansberry & the Romance — Let’s Brighten It Up

Pop

Joshua Boydston
The cover of the seven-song EP Let’s Brighten It Up is a telling one. Oklahoma City’s Matt Stansberry is midbounce, dressed in a tailored suit and black-rimmed glasses à la Elvis Costello or Buddy Holly, clutching what looks like a bright-red Les Paul guitar. Stansberry is true to form, as polished and accomplished as ever, and his new band, The Romance, adds a little pep to his step.

Captain America: Collector’s Edition

He was the big screen’s real ‘First Avenger.’

Action

Rod Lott
Not long after Batman changed Hollywood in the summer of 1989, every studio wanted to have the next comics-based blockbuster. I remember visiting Penn Square Mall’s multiplex (as I did often back then) and seeing a poster for Captain America. The one-sheet was comprised of little more than a close-up of Cap’s iconic shield and a promise to arrive next summer.

Behind the Candelabra

It tickles the ivories.

Drama

Rod Lott

Michael Douglas deserved the Emmy he won earlier this week for Behind the Candelabra. For one thing, while watching him play Liberace, I forgot I was watching him play Liberace.

Fright Night 2: New Blood

Fangs for nothing.

Horror

Rod Lott
I'm not surprised Fright Night 2: New Blood was made expressly for home video. What does surprise me is that it is not a sequel at all. It's more or less a remake of 2011's Fright Night remake, but with entirely different actors to give it the unmistakable whiff of fan fiction.

Brian Haas / Matt Chamberlain — Frames

Jazz

Zach Hale
Here’s an interesting fact about Frames, the new album from Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey mastermind Brian Haas and drummer Matt Chamberlain: If you pre-ordered the release, Haas — a Tulsa native — will record or play live at a show an improvisational piece based on your astrological chart.
