I consistently fail at Father’s Day. I’m sorry, Dad, I love you, but I never have any idea what to get you. There are only so many variations on the theme of golf one can buy as a present, after all.
So, for the rest of you out there that may have waited ’til the last possible second to show Dad you really care, here are some ideas. For the Intellectual:
Bow ties. He already likes to read and probably wears glasses. Bow ties are the next logical step. Head to Steven Giles
to check out some snazzy neck bows. Plus, the friendly, helpful staff can even give you a tutorial. For the Wino:
This category is made for my father-in-law. If your dad is all about the vino, check out writer Greg Horton’s rundown of the best wine for Dad
in this week’s Oklahoma Gazette. For the Foodie:
Talk about perfect for your food-loving father. The Tasting Room
offers cooking classes in a really lovely setting. Upcoming classes include cold foods, New Orleans cuisine and tailgating. Also check out [Artspace] at Untitled
’s “A Taste of Art” cooking classes. The next class covers Mediterranean cuisine on June 25.For the Geek:
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds (aka Nathan Fillion) shared his Father’s Day gizmo picks with Vulture
. This guy knows how to keep a Firefly-class transport ship in the air, so I think you should trust him when he says Dad would love a Microvision Laser Pico Projector. (And yes, I’m talking about Joss Whedon’s beloved-but-canceled “Firefly,” for those who don’t live in Nerdistan with me.)For the Adventurer:
Lucky you, getting the fun dad! Dad’s always up for an adventure, so why not head over to Rocktown Climbing Gym
for a day of indoor climbing and bouldering? Or, check out OKC Kayak
to hit Oklahoma’s waterways. They even offer a special “Dads and Daughters” and a Father’s Day paddle.
