Compliance

Do as you’re told and watch ... if you can.

Thriller

Rod Lott
File Compliance under “stranger than fiction.” Although not a documentary, it is based on a true story, and one so utterly outrageous that many will refuse to believe it anyway.

The Jeffrey Dahmer Files

“Go look in the refrigerator.”

Documentary

Rod Lott
Understandably, a documentary about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer that weaves fictional elements with fact sounds like a wretched, evil, exploitative thing. Instead, it's a small marvel of microcinema — and another argument for the storytelling power of the nonfiction format.

Nightmare Honeymoon

Do not consummate.

Thriller

Rod Lott
Presented by Warner Archive in both theatrical and television versions, 1974's Nightmare Honeymoon carries the tagline "Thank heavens, it's only a movie!" — obviously inspired by The Last House on the Left's "To avoid fainting, keep repeating, it's only a movie" the year prior. Despite sharing a rape-revenge story, Nightmare Honeymoon is nothing like Last House. It's also not a horror film by any stretch of the imagination, of which it possesses none of its own.

Grumpy old men

CFN

Gazette staff
What do Hollywood actors Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon and Oklahoma City Ward 8 Councilman Pat Ryan have in common? They’re grumpy old men. At least some people think so.
