Stillwater dudes People, People spread their flannel blankets over their drum skins for a muted, intimate show inside the ol’ VDub Vanagon with videographer Nathan Poppe for the latest episode of “The VDub Sessions.” Titled “Golden Rust,” the song’s new and lovely. Everybody involved gets bonus points for riding around in that AC-less heat trap.

This might just be my favorite-ever installment of “The VDub Sessions.”

For one thing, you’ve got Tulsa’s strongest male singer, and for another, you’ve got him covering one of the GOATs (greatest of all-time). What more do you need? Here’s Ben Kilgore singing Otis Redding’s immortal “These Arms of Mine”:



Y’know, this kinda begs the question: Do you prefer Mr. Kilgore’s earnest-to-goodness Redding cover to Kanye West and Jay-Z’s recent tribute-sample track, “Otis”? I certainly do. But you decide for yourself.

Oh, my.

For those of you who recall their performance at this year’s Norman Music Festival, Japanese anime/cartoon/metal-ish band Peelander-Z provided a batshit-insane hour’s worth of crowd-interactive entertainment that included human bowling, a giant squid and choreographed dancing. It was hilarious and somewhat terrifying.

Opolis announced Peelander’s mighty return to Norman yesterday on its Facebook page. I tremble at the thought of those three little men performing in a tiny, enclosed space so close to my home.  The show’s set for Sept. 10th. You can watch the band’s “interview” at NMF3 below.
