The Master

‘Master’ful filmmaking, yet impenetrable for some.

Drama

Rod Lott
Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master is my least favorite of the director’s half-dozen films. That said, he has yet to make a bad one.

Justin Adams — Justin Adams

Country

Joshua Boydston
Bixby native Justin Adams is a former college football standout with a school record for consecutive games played at Northern Iowa, and that intensity and determination have informed his new path as a country singer. His self-titled debut EP is a sleek, polished recording in line with the genre’s like-minded, clean-cut vocalists Easton Corbin, Luke Bryan and Chris Young.

Her

More than just a futuristic love story, Spike Jonze’s Her is a timely, philosophical masterwork.

Drama

Zach Hale
The futuristic Los Angeles depicted in Her is hardly dystopian. Instead of war-torn landscapes and flying robot drones, director Spike Jonze offers Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix, The Master), a lonesome writer in the midst of a divorce, and the soft, affectionate voice of Samantha (Scarlet Johannson, Don Jon), a computer-based operating system with whom he falls in love.

Die, Monster, Die!

Buy, viewer, buy!

Horror

Rod Lott

In Die, Monster, Die!, a decent H.P. Lovecraft adaptation from 1965, the repellent Reinhart (Nick Adams, Frankenstein Conquers the World) visits the secluded mansion of wacky, wheelchair-bound Witley (Boris Karloff, Targets), who has discovered something quite peculiar residing in his basement.
