It’s obvious The Wurly Birds want to take you back, way back. The
affection for The Beatles’ perfect pop-rock ballads couldn’t be more
clear, and in “Turns,” the Oklahoma City five-piece does that golden
standard proud.

Don’t worry, rock kids. Now on EP No. 3, Oklahoma City’s Junebug Spade
is still the same, early British, vaguely psychedelic, throwback band

with simple, original guitar riffs and lyrics about ... well, girls
mostly.

“It’s so ‘down’ and so ‘jiggy,’ I swear they even rip off the damned
Proclaimers with straight faces, and suffice it to say, leading
forced-shout vocalist and bassist Tyson Ritter is no Johnny Depp/Buster
Keaton. ... Did anyone mention the last decade is over now? They didn’t
get that memo.”
