H.P. Lovecraft’s Cool Air

Ice it.

Horror

Rod Lott
H.P. Lovecraft’s Cool Air is really Albert Pyun’s Cool Air. The notorious director of the aborted Captain America and the should’ve-been-aborted Kathy Ireland vehicle known as Alien from L.A. is up to his usual inert tricks. It shows from the start, which forces viewers to read six title cards in two long minutes.

Monsters University

The college-set Disney/Pixar prequel graduates without honors.

Youth

Phil Bacharach
If Monsters University is any indication of what children think college is like, maybe it’s no wonder that increasing numbers of young people are forgoing higher education. The follow-up to Disney/Pixar 2001’s Monsters, Inc. imagines university life as a suffocating place ruled by mean-spirited cliques and droning professors.

Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th

The men and women behind the mask.

Documentary

Rod Lott
How appropriate that a history of the Friday the 13th fits into a snug 13 chapters on Blu-ray and DVD. It makes me wonder if its running time of 6.66 hours also were intentional.
