Calling Rep. Lankford

Letters to the Editor

D.W. Tiffee
I see that U.S. Rep. James Lankford, R-Okla., is once again misrepresenting legislation, claiming that “The debt deal” (News, Clifton Adcock, Gazette) requires either a constitutional balanced budget amendment or “a proposal to cut $1.5 trillion in spending.”

Soak the rich

Letters to the Editor

D.W. Tiffee
I got a good chuckle at Mike Brake frantically waving the crying towel for rich Americans (Letters, “Batchelder logic,” Sept. 14, Gazette). What is the relevance that the top 1 percent pay 40 percent of income taxes given that they constitute just half of all federal revenues?

Truth and taxes

Letters to the Editor

B. Ellis

Putting people to work

Letters to the Editor

D.W. Tiffee
B. Ellis (Letters, “Truth and taxes,” Oct. 12) must have the Gazette confused with The Oklahoman when he demands they stop publishing my “slight-of-hand statistical shifting.” Blame billionaire Warren Buffet for noticing that his secretary pays double the effective federal tax rate he does.

‘Let them eat cake'

Letters to the Editor

D.W. Tiffee
I see that Chris Smith (Commentary, “Point: What is the endgame?” Nov. 16, Oklahoma Gazette) is using the typical lawyer tactic of sneer and smear when he describes the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators as “bum(s)” who are a “blight on our community.”

Oklahoma is not OK

Letters to the Editor

D.W. Tiffee
In support of Republican plans to eliminate the state income tax, the deranged Oklahoma Council on Public Affairs claims that “states with no income tax and with the lowest overall tax burdens consistently outperform the high-tax states, the national average and Oklahoma.” (Commentary, “Point: Phase out state personal income tax,” Feb. 1, Oklahoma Gazette).

Trying something new for the economy

Letters to the Editor

Russell W. Jones
I really enjoy the letters you publish, but there is one thing that bothers me.
