I Saw the Devil

Staggeringly good, alive with color, tension and dread.

Rod Lott
If you don't mind subtitles and have a strong stomach, "I Saw the Devil" may be the best thriller you'll see all year.

There goes the neighborhood, at a snail’s pace

Rod Lott
Perhaps AIP’s answer to “Death Wish,” “Walking Tall” and “The Warriors,” 1980’s “Defiance” feels late to the vigilante party.

Boy Wonder

It’s no ‘Wonder.’

Rod Lott
If superheroes were real, their exploits would go down as they are portrayed in “Boy Wonder”: free of costume and as a vigilante who brings to mind Bernie Goetz and “Death Wish” anti-hero Paul Kersey. That doesn’t make the movie good, however. It’s like an emo version of “Kick-Ass” that forgot to take its Celebrex.

The Last Hard Men / Sky Riders

While Coburn isn’t ‘Hard’ to like, some of his movies are.

Rod Lott
As a recent release of a bitch-slappin' medical mystery reminded me, James Coburn is really as cool as Clint Eastwood, so I welcomed Shout! Factory’s new “Action Double Feature,” which places two of the late actor’s 1976 films on one DVD.
