VOTD: Austin via Tulsa

Watch Tulsa’s Desi and Cody play a morning show before you catch them at SXSW.

Tulsa bluegrass-folk-indie duo Desi and Cody swung by the FOX 23 studio in Tulsa last week for an appearance on Great Day Green Country. The song’s called “Fable,” and it’s a nice showcase of Desirae Roses’ singing ability.

Also, please excuse the morning show host’s mispronunciation of Bruce Springsteen’s last name. Check Desi and Cody out at South by Southwest at Friends Bar (208 E. Sixth) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, or at The Side Bar (602 E. Seventh) at 3:15 p.m. Friday.

Hogan’s Fable

An Oklahoma City filmmaker’s feature film debut is set to premiere at this weekend’s Austin Film Festival.

One cold night in early January 2011, an Oklahoma City-based filmmaker returned from a drink at the bar to housesit his parents’ old, empty abode. But the familiarity of the attic, staircase and the basement door quickly faded when a mass blackout affected the entire neighborhood. Vinnie Hogan has replayed this horrifying scenario since childhood, and he met this dark fate not only with the illumination of his cellphone but also with the idea for his first feature film.
