In his Commentary (“Scrutinizing science”), Steve Kern tells us that real education should be about teaching kids to think. If we are to do this, it is important that we teach them the distinction between a scientific theory and a hunch. An idea becomes a theory only after it has been subjected to rigorous testing and peer review.
