Just hear those ice-rink DJs spin a record or two. Come on, it’s lovely weather for a snow-tubing session with you. Giddyup, giddyup, giddyup, let’s go, let’s take in a show — the one with city buildings built in Lego. Giddyup, giddyup, giddyup, it’s grand — what they’ve done with all this flatland. Once a year, for about a month or more, people can get away with eye-popping light displays plastered outside their home or business in the name of seasonal decor.

And not just “get away with it,” either, but celebrate it, photograph it and commemorate it with song.

’Tis the season! As photographer Shannon Cornman found, there’s plenty of shining — or twinkling, as the case may be — holiday spirit to soak up among area neighborhoods and icons.
