Action Comics #900 / Flashpoint #1 / Batman: Arkham City #1

What’s up with Superman, Batman and The Flash lately?

Comic Book

Rod Lott
Recently, when I overheard two Bubba types talking about how "left-wing nutty" and "un-American" that DC's oversized 900th issue of "Action Comics" was, I knew I had to check it out.

Wild Cherry

So bad, Rumer Willis is in it

Comedy

Rod Lott
Just when you think "Wild Cherry" is a gender-flipped version of "American Pie," it proves your theory true.

Another Earth

Out of orbit.

Science Fiction

Phil Bacharach
You’ve got to admire the DIY ethic of “Another Earth.” Raw and grainy, it is steadfastly committed to its own smarts and vision — even if it ultimately falls short of its ambitions.

In inversion relation to his relationship with film, Quentin Tarantino's track record in television has been less than stellar.

Back from Eternity

And feels like it.

Drama

Rod Lott
It's fun to view Back from Eternity as an early, lower-wattage version of the Airport disaster franchise that ruled the 1970s. Actually, I take that back: It’s not fun at all. It’s a dour, depressing, overwrought melodrama as only old-school Hollywood could do.

Best Laid Plans

Of mess and men.

Drama

Rod Lott
Strangely, the biggest shock surrounding Best Laid Plans isn't that someone thought to redo John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men in the world of underground mixed martial arts, but that it works as well as it does — or hell, that it works at all.

Blade Anime

The vampire hunter gets a toothless treatment.

Action

Rod Lott
I love the character of Blade. I love the Blade comic books, starting with his debut in Marvel's Tomb of Dracula in the 1970s. I love all three Blade movies — yes, including that third one. Hell, I even love the short-lived Blade series Spike TV aired in 2006.
