Zombie A-Hole

Yawn of the dead.

Horror

Rod Lott
Even if it sported a bland title, I still would've wanted to see Zombie A-Hole, for the simple fact that it's writer/director/producer/editor/animator/etc. Dustin Mills' follow-up to 2010's The Puppet Monster Massacre, one of the more fun films the cult world has yet to embrace, because not enough of its residents have seen it. That's my theory, anyway.

Under-handed

CFN

Gazette staff

Okie country cutie Carrie Underwood is guilty of many things: having a powerful singing voice, being hot, winning Grammys, being hot, lending legitimacy to American Idol, being hot, marrying a hockey player, being hot and being hot.

Guns, guns, guns!

CFN

State Rep. Mark McCullough, R-Sapulpa, evidently trying to merge reality with the action movie playing in his head, had a flash of insight on the massacre at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school.

Responsible gun control

Letters to the Editor

Jackie Gaston
Increasing access to guns as the solution of gun violence makes as much sense as doubling up on doughnuts to lose weight. Not gonna happen. Why not try responsible gun control including a bipartisan deal with state and local governments to buy back semiautomatic weapons? That’s what Australia did in 1996 after a gunman killed 35 tourists and wounded 23 more. Their buyback covered about one-fifth of all firearms in Australia, including more than 600,000 semiautomatic shotguns and rifles.

Bath Salt Zombies

More than just a tantalizing title.

Comedy

Rod Lott
It’s kind of amazing how far $5,000 can get filmmakers these days, especially when Dustin Mills is in charge of the cash. Having helmed the inventive Puppet Monster Massacre and, less effectively, Zombie A-Hole, he now sets his deranged sights on designer drugs in Bath Salt Zombies. As one could surmise, it, too, sits squarely in the DIY horror-comedy realm.

An Oklahoma gun range has a connection, however peripheral, to the Sandy Hook massacre.

Bearing arms

Metro gun sales skyrocket in the wake of the Connecticut school massacre.

News

Tim Farley
Public reaction to the killings at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school was swift and immediate in terms of sympathy for the victims, outrage toward the killer and the expected push for stricter restrictions on guns.

Texas Chainsaw

Heard the good buzz?

Horror

Rod Lott
One of the most inconsistent franchises in movie history is the one beget by Tobe Hooper's 1974 classic, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. How does one follow all those less-than-beloved sequels? Lionsgate's latest in the series — the seventh — has a solution: Ignore 'em.

Reel Zombies / Sorority Party Massacre

Ha? Bah.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Despite horror comedies being extremely difficult to pull off, indie filmmakers keep trying, to a degree of sheer obliviousness. The latest examples are Reel Zombies and Sorority Party Massacre, both of which come off as in-jokes — not exactly the most ingratiating approach for attracting an audience.
