Making Meade

When Hugh Meade left the ATL for OKC a decade ago, he packed a passion for creative collaboration and public art.

For nighttime visitors to the Plaza District, it’s hard to miss the 100 incandescent lights in Empire Slice House’s signature sign. Or maybe you took a family photo with the 9-foot owl at Myriad Botanical Gardens’ Pumpkinville this fall.

Wish Lists

News

Gazette staff
What do local notables want this holiday season? Well, Oklahoma Gazette asked ’em. And they told us. Imagine that!  We passed along these lists to Mr. Claus to do with as he sees fit. But for now, we’re reading the list — some of it twice, because it’s that good. We talked to everyone from adult film stars to leading conservative politicians to get insight — and a laugh — from our leading locals. Happy holidays! — Jennifer Chancellor

Ziggy it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff
The glitz and glamor of New Year’s Eve is hard to top. But if anyone could, it was David Bowie’s flamboyant alter ego Ziggy Stardust. See locals Stardeath and White Dwarfs perform Bowie’s classic 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bricktown Music Hall, 103 Flaming Lips Alley. Tyson Meade, New Fumes and Takeoff Eyeslow will also perform. Tickets are $18-$20. Call 600-6092 or visit ticketstorm.com.

Tyson Meade - Tomorrow in Progress

Rock

Joshua Boydston

Tyson Meade has nothing to prove.

He might not be a household name (outside of his home state of Oklahoma, at least), but his influence on the scope of alternative music is just as indelible as that of Lou Reed, David Bowie or Morrissey.
