So here’s an idea. The Metropolitan Library System should consider starting a YA for Adults book club. Because, you guys, I would totally be its No. 1 fan/cheering section/avid attendee. Extra points if said group could somehow involve drinking.

Genius idea, right? But I promise I’ll be humble when the librarians embrace the plan and want to throw me an appropriately quiet yet heartfelt “cool idea” parade.

Until the YA for Adults club (proposed group name: No Longer Shameful!), YA fans both adult and, you know, young adult, can get their fix when author Maureen Johnson visits a handful of metro libraries this week.

Johnson, whose titles include “13 Little Blue Envelopes” and “The Last Little Blue Envelope” (which is out this spring) kicks off the visits with the Bethany Library at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow. On Wednesday, Johnson has a full day: the Edmond Library at 9:30 a.m., Midwest City Library at 1:00 p.m. and The Village Library at 7 p.m. She ends her mini-metro tour at a 9:30 a.m. chat Thursday at the Capitol Hill Library.

To celebrate Johnson’s week here in OKC, the MLS is hosting a spine poetry contest. It’s just like it sounds: Create poetry using the spines of Johnson’s books and submit by Wednesday at noon. A special prize will be given to the top three poems.

I never got into comics. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I’m not a boy.

I did try at one point. When I was deep (deep) into my “X-Files” obsession, I attempted to read a handful of the TV series’ comic book spin-offs. Just as embarrassingly, I also tried to get into the spin-off books, which were just laughably bad. (Although, since I’m confessing, I still distinctly remember a scene where Mulder answers his door wearing only a towel and 13-year-old me was like “Finally!,” thinking I was at last going to see some hot Mulder-on-Scully action. I was disappointed.)

Right, moving on. So, comic books: As part of Free Comic Book Day this Saturday, branches of the Metropolitan Library System (and area bookstores) will be giving away — wait for it — a free comic book! Easy as that. Go pick up yours Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. And supplies are limited, so get there early.

And may I suggest passing over any available “X-Files” comics?
