With Great Power ...: The Stan Lee Story

A not-quite-Marvelous look at a pop-culture giant.

Documentary

Rod Lott
There's a great story surrounding Stan Lee and Marvel Comics. I know because a month ago, I read all about it in Sean Howe’s new book about the very topic. As for the documentary With Great Power  ...: The Stan Lee Story, however, it's perfectly fine if the only portrait you care to see is superficial, self-laudatory and largely wart-free.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume XXV

For the 25th time, we’ve got Movie Sign!

Television series

Rod Lott
A noticeable difference exists with Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume XXV from Shout! Factory’s previous sets: This one is comparatively light on extras. However, that’s hardly a knock against it, because the show itself is just too damned good on its own.

All Superheroes Must Die

Packs a mild punch.

Thriller

Rod Lott

Gangster Squad

Speaking ‘Confidential’ly ...

Action

Rod Lott
Gangster Squad takes place in 1949 Los Angeles, a time when the Hollywood sign still sported “LAND” at the end, and a time that looks like L.A. Confidentiala lot like L.A. Confidential.

Much Ado About Nothing

Great Shakes!

Comedy

Aimee Williams
Testing the adaptability of a literary and theater masterpiece, Josh Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing obliterates all of the pomp and ceremony typically associated with a Shakespeare production, bringing it down to earth in Southern California.

The gospel according to Sean

Sean C. Johnson lends his soulful sound to inspire the masses.

Music

Louis Fowler
Neo-gospel singer Sean C. Johnson has always been a music fan, but it wasn’t until hearing a ’60s soul legend on a record player by chance that he decided, right then and there, that was what he wanted to do with his life.

Coming home

OKC native Jamie Pettis has traveled far and wide but was drawn back to her home state for her new exhibit.

Visual Arts

Molly Evans
There’s just something magnetic about Oklahoma City, but one natural-born wayfarer and multidisciplinary artist didn’t realize it until she headed west three years ago.
