VOTD: Givers stop by NPR

If this doesn’t amplify your Friday happiness, you may need pharmaceuticals.

A few select descriptors from NPR music writer Michael Katzif’s write-up of Givers’ Tiny Desk Show: bright, tropical, polyrhythmic, slinky, wild, loose, fun, buoyant, raw, celebratory, Afrobeat, crisp, alluring, spirited, sunny, exuberant, and bobbing.

I feel like that just about says, it don’t you? That and singer Taylor Guarisco’s hilarious white boy head-bobbing. Dude moves like a drug-addled parakeet.

OOPS: It appears you have to surf through to NPR's site to get more than just the audio. Please do so. It's a very spirited, very fun desk show.

VOTD: OK Go + Pilobus — All is Not Lost

May we suggest pretty girls the next time you decide to shoot an all-Lycra video?

At this point, music videos are all OK Go’s got going for them. In this one for “All Is Not Lost,” you get a look at the band and accompanying dance troupe from an angle that would probably get you arrested in a few states.

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks — Mirror Traffic

Pavement legend still plenty feisty.

Indie

Matt Carney
So what happens when you pair a couple of 1990s indie legends, setting the one known for bizarro, folky hip-hop at the control panel, and the one who famously dissed Smashing Pumpkins and Stone Temple Pilots behind the microphone?

VOTD: People, People do The VDub Sessions

People, People get ready, for the van’s a-comin’

Stillwater dudes People, People spread their flannel blankets over their drum skins for a muted, intimate show inside the ol’ VDub Vanagon with videographer Nathan Poppe for the latest episode of “The VDub Sessions.” Titled “Golden Rust,” the song’s new and lovely. Everybody involved gets bonus points for riding around in that AC-less heat trap.

VOTD: James Blake at Pitchfork Music Festival

Watch the indie-electronica wunderkind blow festival-exhausted minds with “CMYK.”

Whoever said outdoor electronic day shows were boring?

James Blake performed "CMYK" at Pitchfork Music Festival a few weekends back, accompanied by a pretty talented drummer and another guy who appears to switch between a guitar for the song's CV radio coda and some sort of synthesizer for the frenetic groove in the middle.

Toss in some crazy vocal effects from Mr. Blake and you've got a couple thousand happy, dancing hipsters.
