Lots of Oklahoma football news trickling out of Norman this week but the only one related to the upcoming Saturday game against Baylor: there are additional tickets available for the game.

Tickets are $67 and will be on sale starting at 8 a.m. Friday.  Here's the punchline: these tickets became available when they were not claimed by OU students.  (Maybe they are headed to Stillwater for the Cowboys' game against the fourth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks?)

The OU game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start, interested parties may call the OU Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-456-GoOu or 405-325-2424 or visit their site for more information.

OU has sold out Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium for 54 consecutive games; perhaps the streak will be in jeopardy?

Oh, yeah, and the news this week out of the football office? Coach Bob Stoops has been nominated for the Bear Bryant coaching award and Jeramine Gresham was tabbed the John Mackey Tight End of the Week.

The first of three Oklahoma River cruisers arrived in Oklahoma City this week.

 

Eventually, riders will be able to take the boat from the Interstate 40-Interstate 44 area into the Downtown area.

The University of Oklahoma Athletics Ticket Office has received a limited number of visiting team returns for Saturday's 7 p.m. Texas A&M game at Owen Field. 

 

Tickets will be available online at SoonerSports.com beginning today at 5 p.m.  Beginning tomorrow, tickets may also be purchased by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at 800-456-4668 or (405) 325-2424 during regular business hours between 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., or in person at the Athletics Ticket Office on the west side of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. 

 

Tickets for the game are $67 and are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

The Hillary Clinton campaign unveiled its first television advertisement to be played in Oklahoma.

 

The 30-second ad titled "Falling Through" talks about the troubled state of the nation's economy. It also takes a swipe at oil companies.

The two-year Sean Sutton era ended in Stillwater on April Fool's Day 2008.

 

Although the team won 39 games and lost 29 during his tenure as head coach, the Cowboys did not advance to the NCAA men's basketball championship either year.

 

Athletics director Mike Holder said he and Sutton "mutually agreed" the coach would resign, is that really the case?

 

Holder has said a national coaching search would commence to replace Sutton. On whom has Holder set his sights? Will he make the trip to the Alamo city this weekend to pursue candidates as the Final Four play for the championship title?

 

Where will Sutton land? Will he pursue another head-coaching position in the collegiate ranks or will he try and land an assistant's post at another university?

Former Lieutenant Governor and Oklahoma Sooner quarterback Jack Mildren passed away May 22 after a battle with cancer. He was 58.

Mildren served Oklahoma as lieutenant governor from 1990 to 1994 and then unsuccessfully ran against Frank Keating in the governor's race.

Democrat Leader Danny Morgan said his thoughts were with Mildren's family.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Lieutenant Governor Jack Mildren's family tonight," Morgan, D- Prague, said in a statement.  "Oklahoma has lost one its greatest ambassadors tonight. We will always remember his sports heroics, his accomplishments as a public servant and his dedication to his wife and children. Tonight we mourn the loss of a great Oklahoman."

Born and raised in West Texas, Mildren played quarterback for Oklahoma from 1969 to 1971. He was the first Sooner quarterback to play in the "Wishbone" offense. "Stefanie Brickman

Oklahoma women's basketball coach suspended Guard Jenna Plumley indefinitely from the team July 17. Coale's statement to the media was that Plumley's citation earlier that week for allegedly pocketing cosmetics was one event in a chain of happenings that displeased the coach.

"There had been ongoing concerns with Jenna that culminated in a meeting within the last two weeks," Coale said in the statement. "During that meeting a plan was outlined for what our program expected from her. She has not met those expectations. I am concerned for Jenna and want proceed in a way that is in the best interest of her education and our team."

Aug. 1, Oklahoma football coach announced receiver Josh Jarboe was being dismissed from the team.

As a high-school senior, the Georgia native faced weapons charges for allegedly carrying a gun on school property. Late in July, a YouTube video spread virally across the Internet in which Jarboe was rapping lyrics to a song about shooting people.

"We are disappointed in this outcome, but our complete review and this final decision is in the best interest of our program" Stoops said in a statement. "We outlined for Josh the expectations we had for him when he arrived and, unfortunately, those expectations have not been met."

So what is the connection between the two events?

Moments after the NBA OKC issued press release this morning detailing the team's 2008-09 schedule, some very savvy surfers at TheLostOgle managed to visit and save a screenshot of what appears to be the Oklahoma City Thunder's schedule.

However, for those who were a day late and a dollar short to nba.com/schedules/?team=thunder did not see what our friends there did:

 

 

Subsequent visitors to that URL did not see the Thunder but instead saw a series of different screens including SuperSonics, blank pages, some error pages and finally a page that is nonsensical.

Apparently it is officially unofficial that the team will be the Oklahoma City Thunder. Let the jokes begin.
