New shift

Comedian James Ngheim remakes the ’90s classic ‘Clerks’ ... kind of.

Features

Alyssa Grimley
For local comedian James Nghiem, doing a shot-for-shot remake of Kevin Smith’s influential indie comedy of 1994, Clerks, just sounded like a fun thing to do.

Bath Salt Zombies

More than just a tantalizing title.

Comedy

Rod Lott
It’s kind of amazing how far $5,000 can get filmmakers these days, especially when Dustin Mills is in charge of the cash. Having helmed the inventive Puppet Monster Massacre and, less effectively, Zombie A-Hole, he now sets his deranged sights on designer drugs in Bath Salt Zombies. As one could surmise, it, too, sits squarely in the DIY horror-comedy realm.

The Grown Ups — Dark Hearts

Rock

Zach Hale
It's pretty clear that The Grown Ups know what good music sounds like. When the band ceases its emulation of good music and lets its creativity flow naturally, the Oklahoma City collective's new album, Dark Hearts, offers flashes of genuine talent.

The Loneliest Planet

Take a hike.

Drama

Rod Lott
It’s curious that the Internet Movie Database (among other sources) has classified The Loneliest Planet as a “thriller,” since the film forgoes not just all that genre’s trappings, but narrative altogether.

Cosmostanza — Champs

Rock

Joshua Boydston
It takes most bands a couple of years to put out two EPs. Oklahoma City garage rockers Cosmostanza did that in less than six months.

Clip art

Some of today’s most innovative and creative music videos come from the Norman directorial duo known as Lamar+Nik.

Music

Joshua Boydston
It’s not uncommon for music video directors to work with budgets ranging from thousands to millions. Norman-based production duo Lamar+Nik made its calling card with $80 worth of glue guns and paint pens and a truckload of cardboard.

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff
Instrumental indie rockers El Ten Eleven are known for heavy looping and double-necking, which are ... aw, heck, we don’t have room to ’splain it. Catch the L.A. band at 8 p.m. Tuesday at The Conservatory, 8911 N. Western, and you’ll grasp the cochlear concept. Slow Magic and Nude Pop open. Tickets are $10-$12. Call 607-4805 or visit conservatoryokc.com.
