Another Round — Just Walk Away

Rock

When you get to a movie early, you have to sit through numerous ads. Among the most entertaining are for the National Guard: Strong, determined individuals kick in doors and save children from raging flood waters while a specially made tune from Nickleback or Hinder blasts in the background, providing a fist-bumping soundtrack to these heroes’ courageous acts.

Hear it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff
Singer/songwriter Mando Saenz just let his Studebaker out of the garage — not a car, mind you, but his third album — so weave your way to Wormy Dog Saloon, 311 E. Sheridan, to hear the Texas native sing its tracks live. Saenz performs at 9 p.m. Thursday to celebrate the disc’s release. Call 601-6276 or visit wormydog.com.

Just it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff
It may call itself Just an OK Art Show, but the fourth incarnation of the event looks anything but “just” — not with work from eight artists (including photographs by Lyndsey Marie), comedy by James Nghiem, free beverages and live music from Limber Limbs and Larry Chin. It all goes down from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Lettering Express, 2130 W. Reno. Admission is $5. Call 235-8999 or visit letteringexpressok.com.

Keeping order

Sekhet Bast Ra offers an oasis to people seeking a different sort of spirituality.

Driving south on N. Pennsylvania Ave., just before N.W. 23rd St., is an old shopping center that hosts, most notably, a Domino’s Pizza. But just a few doors down, at 2714 N. Penn. Ave., in the otherwise-threadbare frontage, is a striking mural of a winged goddess that almost begs one to stop and investigate.

What works: entrees that compare with the metro’s best.

What needs work: The website needs an update with a complete menu, including prices.

The Tip: top-notch, country-style grub and plenty of it.
