Can it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

You can do a lot of cool things with a can: Kick it, smash it, drink delicious beverages out of it. But have you ever built a canned food structure? That’s what teams of architects, contractors, engineers and designers are invited to do at CANstruction, a nonprofit competition benefitting City Rescue Mission of Oklahoma City. The event is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Bricktown Chevy Events Center, 425 E. California Ave. Admission is one can of food. Visit canstruction.org.

Womb it

Few galleries do psychedelic (or salacious) like The Womb. The Flaming Lips-affiliated space presents Bad Trip, a new exhibit from artists (and brothers) Oliver and Spencer Hibert. Expect the imagery to be, um, vivid. The opening reception is 7 p.m. Friday at Womb Gallery, 25 NW Ninth St. Admission is free. Call 600-6366 or visit wombgallery.com and okgazette.com for additional coverage.

Of the many bright spots each holiday season, seeing the array of lights adorning the landscape is undoubtedly the brightest. The University of Central Oklahoma celebrates each year with WinterGlow, which features caroling and Santa himself in addition to some beautiful scenery. Activities are from 6-9 p.m. Friday on the UCO campus, 100 N. University Drive in Edmond. Admission is free. Call 974-2363 or visit uco.edu/winterglow.

Noise it

OKG7 things to do

Music and visual arts don’t have to be exclusive to one another. In fact, they’re probably more related than you think. Noise Makers, a group exhibition exploring the relationship between the two mediums, opens 6 p.m. Friday at Mainsite Contemporary Art, 122 E. Main St. in Norman, and will run through Jan. 11. Admission is free. Call 360-1162 or visit mainsite-art.com.

Laugh it

OKG7 things to do

Let’s face it: we all love to laugh at the expense of others. Comedian Jim Gaffigan knows this (the guy just put out a book called Dad Is Fat, after all), which is a big reason he has ascended to the top of the stand-up ranks. See Gaffigan poke fun at himself (and maybe eat a Hot Pocket or two) 9 p.m. Friday at WinStar World Casino, 777 Casino Ave. in Thackerville. Tickets are $40-$60. Call (800) 745-3000 or visit winstarworldcasino.com.

Cage it

Gazette staff

Here’s why mixed martial arts are so much cooler than other forms of professional fighting: While other matches are fought inside a measly ring, these guys throw it down inside a cage. See a series of special MMA cage fights, with a main event pitting Bill Smallwood against Hobart native “Ko-Kid” Stafford, 8 p.m. Friday at Farmers Public Market, 311 S. Klein Ave. Tickets are $25-$50. Visit ticketstorm.com.
