Even if you hate it — and plenty will — you have to admit Casa de Mi Padre is a unique slice of cinema. Will Ferrell stars in this spirited parody of the Mexican telenovela. Not only is the comedy set in Mexico, but performed almost entirely in Spanish. Name one other A-lister who would dare commit to such an audience-limiting undertaking, foreign language and all. For a star of his stature to spoof something his fan base likely knows nothing about is so ballsy, it bounces.

You know how all the waiters at Mexican restaurants act like the plates they bring you are scalding? As if! Now, molten iron? That sucker’s hot, as in 3200 F. See it be poured from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the University of Oklahoma School of Art and Art History’s annual Fuego Friday, at the corner of Congress and Preble in Norman. Admission is free. Eduardo Rodriguez has put three pictures in the can (including the upcoming Fright Night 2) since completing his directorial debut, Curandero: Dawn of the Demon, in 2005. Why, then, has it taken roughly eight years for Curandero to hit DVD? You got me; it’s not as if a lack of quality has stopped any flick before.
