Evil Dead

Major-studio horror doesn’t get much better — or bloodier!

Horror

Rod Lott
From the prologue of Evil Dead, it’s evident this is not your everyday, note-for-note, beat-for-beat horror remake. In fact, it joins that select group of remakes that stand on their own while remaining respectful of their source, i.e. The Fly, The Blob, The Thing (John Carpenter's, mind you) and Dawn of the Dead.

Starbuck

A sitcom premise with spunk.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Thanksgiving brings Vince Vaughn's Delivery Man to theaters, but you can see it now, more or less, in Starbuck, the 2011 French dramedy that serves as the source material for the American remake.

Bert Stern: Original Madman

Our snap judgment: See it!

Documentary

Rod Lott
For someone who claims to be so uncomfortable in front of the camera, Bert Stern never shuts up in Original Madman, the documentary about him. And I'm sure glad he didn't, as the story of his life is a must-absorb for anyone interested in film, fashion, photography, art, design, advertising, popular culture, counterculture ... oh, hell, let's say American history in general.

Street Trash

Now every day can be garbage day.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Street Trash is a semipolitical horror comedy that pulls out all the stops in an all-out effort seemingly to offend as many viewers as possible. Personally, I think that’s a good thing.

BLOW

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

They just don’t wrestle like they used to. And by that, we mean we miss seeing the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW) on our television sets. True to the original 1980s style, BLOW features colorful, over-the-top wrestling of the female variety, including an appearance from WCW’s Sweet Sherry and original GLOW girl Godiva. The bout begins 7 p.m. Thursday at OKC Farmers Public Market, 311 S. Klein Ave. Tickets are $10-$15. Visit ticketstorm.com.

Peter Pan: The Musical

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

There’s no way anyone could improve on the original Peter Pan. You can’t improve on perfection, right? Unless, of course, you turn it into a musical, which is what Summerstock Productions and the University of Central Oklahoma are doing with the original 1954 Broadway version of Peter Pan: The Musical. See it 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Neverland ... er, Mitchell Hall Theatre, 100 N. University Drive, in Edmond. Tickets are $20-$25. Call 974-3375 or visit click4tix.com/uco.
