OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff
Few galleries do psychedelic (or salacious) like The Womb. The Flaming Lips-affiliated space presents Bad Trip, a new exhibit from artists (and brothers) Oliver and Spencer Hibert. Expect the imagery to be, um, vivid. The opening reception is 7 p.m. Friday at Womb Gallery, 25 NW Ninth St. Admission is free. Call 600-6366 or visit and for additional coverage.

Idre - Idre

Joshua Boydston
For a long time there, metal felt like it was on life support, relegated to the dankest of underground clubs and precious few high school loner iPods.

How to Train Your Dragon 2

How to Train Your Dragon 2 soars for DreamWorks.

Phil Bacharach
In 2010, DreamWorks approached the rarified air of Pixar-level animation with How to Train Your Dragon, one of DreamWorks’ few family-friendly offerings that didn’t suffer from an overload of pop culture references. Pixar has proven itself fallible in the ensuing years, but the DreamWorks franchise hasn’t lost any of its fire in How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Riversport Challenge

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

Few things are as American as racing, whether by foot, by automobile or by horse. Boat racing is pretty darn American too, so go cheer on competitors at the Riversport Challenge, a dual 500-meter kayak race and 5k running race as part of the SandRidge Energy Stars & Stripes River Festival. The whistle blows at 8 a.m., and events run through 10 p.m. in the Boathouse District, 725 S. Lincoln Blvd. Admission is free, while challenge registration is $35 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Call 552-4040 or visit

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

There are few things we value more dearly in this country than the First Amendment (that is, of course, why it was the first). Freedom of Expression, a collaborative new exhibit by abstract painter Theresa Hurt and metal sculptor Basil Martin III, celebrates this idea with its thought-provoking interpretations. The exhibition opens Friday and runs through July 26 at In Your Eye Studio & Gallery, 3005-A Paseo St. Admission is free. Call 525-2161 or visit

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

Few, if any, comedy troupes had the long-lasting international appeal that Monty Python did. With a rotating cast of funny men like John Cleese, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle, the ol’ gang is getting back together for the first time in over three decades with a live broadcast event, Monty Python Live (mostly). Laughing commences 1:30 p.m. Sunday at AMC Quail Springs 24, 2501 W. Memorial Road, and Cinemark Tinseltown USA, 6001 N. Martin Luther King Ave. Tickets are $12.50-$17. Visit
