Lovely bones

Instead of taxidermy, one OKC company preserves dearly departed pets by cleaning and posing the doggone skeleton.

Can it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

You can do a lot of cool things with a can: Kick it, smash it, drink delicious beverages out of it. But have you ever built a canned food structure? That’s what teams of architects, contractors, engineers and designers are invited to do at CANstruction, a nonprofit competition benefitting City Rescue Mission of Oklahoma City. The event is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Bricktown Chevy Events Center, 425 E. California Ave. Admission is one can of food. Visit canstruction.org.

’80s it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

There were a lot of things about the ’80s that weren’t necessarily cool (parachute pants, anyone?), but the movies that came out in that otherwise-awkward decade were pretty awesome. Exhibit A: John Hughes’ comingof-age story Sixteen Candles.

See the Brat Pack classic 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harkins Bricktown Cinemas, 150 E. Reno Ave. Call 231-4747 or visit harkinstheatres.com.

Back in action

Rebuilding after last May’s tornadoes, Winchester Drive In Theatre is once again open for business.

Features

Louis Fowler
When many local cinephiles heard word that the legendary Winchester Drive In Theatre was hit hard by last year’s epic spate of tornadic activity, an aura of sadness spread throughout the community. After all, the drive-in was a celebratory gathering place for movie fans looking for nostalgia and families looking for inexpensive entertainment, as well as an integral part of the Oklahoma City landscape, a piece of the past that, sadly, is pretty much dead in America.
