How did Eazy-E get his nickname? What about Dr. Dre or Ice Cube or any other master MC with a moniker? Chances are few of them got it as part of a misunderstanding at high school.

My name is ____

We asked some local bands how the @#%! they came up with a name like that. Here's what they told us.

ADDverse Effects
“Our name is a double entendre. The initial thought was, as a band, when you add the verse, these are the effects. But the flesh-meaning is a thought against current popular hip-hop, which pins us as a poor side-effect of that nonsense. We love that we sound nothing like the shit on the radio now, so ADDverse Effects is a good problem to have.” —Joshua Rehanek, vocals

My Name Is Nobody

All good, no bad, no ugly.

Western

Rod Lott
Thanks to his Academy Award-winning swan song of On Golden Pond, we don't automatically associate Henry Fonda with Westerns, but the legendary actor made nearly two dozen of them, perhaps none more more memorable than Sergio Leone's 1968 epic, Once Upon the Time in the West.

They don’t just give the name Luke to people who aren’t awesome. (Luke Skywalker, anyone?) But Luke Bryan earned it, with No.1 singles galore and an Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year award to his name. If seeing a country megastar live in concert is your kind of night, see Bryan on his That’s My Kind of Night Tour 7:30 p.m. Friday at Chesapeake Energy Arena, 100 W. Reno Ave. Tickets start at $26.50. Call 602-8700 or visit chesapeakearena.com.
