Peace, Love & Misunderstanding

You'll want to punch a hippie.

Drama

Phil Bacharach
Nothing can bring out one’s inner Richard Nixon like a flight of baby-boomer whimsy that rubs your nose in 1960s nostalgia. Peace, Love & Misunderstanding, a gentle-minded paean to the Woodstock generation, might just make you want to punch a hippie.

Game change

After several unsuccessful attempts, a state senator plans to reintroduce medical marijuana legislation this session.

Be cautious with a dopey idea

Commentary

Mike Brake
The renewed push to legalize the medical use of marijuana in Oklahoma takes the same misguided approach used by other states, including California. If, indeed, there is legitimate therapeutic value in pot — a contention with limited anecdotal evidence — setting up an ad hoc network of authorized growers and dispensers is the wrong way to go. Medical pot, if it’s ever legalized, should undergo rigorous clinical trials and be carefully regulated like every other drug

Nobody Gets Out Alive

Slash ’n’ trash.

Horror

Rod Lott
Horror fanatics making horror movies is the worst thing about today’s horror movies — worse than remakes, The CW casts and the PG-13 rating. And I say that as a critic who loves the genre.

Pot and panned

Letters to the Editor

Paul Walker
Mike Brake is too old to be writing about medicinal cannabinol use (Commentary, "Be cautious with a dopey idea," Feb. 13, Oklahoma Gazette).

Wuss!

Class dismissed.

Comedy

Rod Lott
For those who tired of the inspirational-teacher subgenre that flourished in the ’80s and ’90s — think Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, Dead Poets Society — there’s Wuss! Exclamation theirs, the film illustrates why I never would want to teach public school in today’s environment, even as a mere sub.
