Unfortunately, it’s all too conventional

Commentary

Dr. Ed Shadid
Among the highest priority for a city government should be preparing that city for the 21st century. There is little room for error; certainly not on the order of hundreds of millions of dollars. While Oklahoma City is poised to grow in many ways, a preoccupation with 20th-century economic development strategies — particularly massive public investment in convention center expansion with large-scale subsidies for an accompanying hotel — are akin to the gambler risking more than one’s family can afford when the odds are heavily stacked against success.

The facts about a convention center hotel

Commentary

Roy Williams
Ed Shadid’s commentary in the June 26 Oklahoma Gazette (“Unfortunately, it’s all too conventional) was incredibly disappointing. I expected more from an announced Oklahoma City mayoral candidate running on a platform of “honesty and transparency.”

New year’s eve party fell flat

CFN

Jennifer May
Let me start by saying I am a Kevin Durant fan just as much as the next Oklahoman. Our family has season tickets to the Thunder games, and we do our best to keep up with KD’s work as an athlete and philanthropist. I nearly jumped through the roof when my husband and I received “exclusive stage” VIP tickets to his New Year’s Eve party.
