Oh-la-la meets fa-la-la

Rub elbows with local celebs and win prizes at this holiday season kickoff.

So, tomorrow is the first day of December. How did that happen? Yeah, I'm not sure, either.

Anyway, December means holiday fun and parties abound. So, tomorrow, on this first day of December, get out and treat yourself at Trichology Salon, 14101 N. May.

The “Silver Belles Holiday Soiree” is the only way to kick off December holiday happenings. The event, which is free to attend, will feature eats from Deep Fork Grill, and you'll be treated to mini-sessions for holiday hair and makeup by the Trichology team. Hello, pampering!

While you're there, get a sneak peak of “Sleigh Ride: A Winter Anthology,” the newly released winter anthology featuring award-winning women authors, including my ShopGirl/Culture Chic predecessor, Jenny Coon Peterson. The cold-weather collection of short stories boasts local scribe Malena Lott, author of “Dating da Vinci,” “The Stork Reality” and “Fixer Upper.” She'll be on site signing books, so you definitely don't want to miss being able to say, “I have a signed copy of one of her books.”

As if good food, hair and makeup sessions, as well as talented locals isn't enough ... there's more!

Christmas will be coming early this year to a few lucky individuals. Partygoers can enjoy a slew of prizes. You could go home with a cocktail dress and shoes designed by local designer Johnathan Kayne, whom you might recognize from “Project Runway.”

Just by showing up, you could fill your stocking with a 1 ct. sapphire diamond from Samuel Gordon, gift cards from OECU Credit Union or a variety of other goodies.

Warm up with some local glamor and fame tomorrow night from 5 to 8 p.m. Bring your fabulous self, friends and enjoy red-carpet treatment right here in OKC.

At one time, hats were an everyday staple and very much a piece of an outfit. Long about the ’60s, men and women began to toss off their tops to focus on the manes underneath.

LUSH life

Penn Square gets cheeky with British beauty bar’s grand opening.

I remember it well: I was wandering Union Street in the quaint historic city of Bath, England. A bright shop window caught my eye. As I drifted toward the door, I took a deep breath, and an intoxicating aroma solidified my curiosity, which culminated in my first trip into a LUSH cosmetics store.

I lingered at the entrance for a few minutes, surveying the colorful and aromatic damage I was about to do to my checkbook. After overloading my senses, as well as my shopping cart, I remembered the limited space in my already heavy travel bag and carefully chose a few items. One was a bath bomb that changed my life.

Another was a shampoo bar that proved to be more than helpful during my international travels.

Since that trip to LUSH, the Anglophile in me faithfully ordered (and paid shipping on) a few pampering bath prerequisites. Lucky for me and for you, that's no longer necessary.

Why, you say? Because LUSH is coming to Oklahoma City! That's right: This British beauty bar will be available to you next week (840-7861). So, look no further for stocking stuffers or treats for yourself.

If you've never tried any LUSH cosmetics, take my advice and do so immediately. They are green and never animal-tested, so you can feel good about splurging on yourself or giving to those picky giftees. In-store, you'll find several consults for any questions you might have concerning the products.

Support the growth of OKC, as this is a big step for us! LUSH is a world-recognized brand that comes with an esteemed reputation, as well as a store full of excellent products.
