Shine it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

Of the many wonderful things we can claim here in Oklahoma, the vast, illustrious horizons we are often presented with is one of the coolest. Oklahoma cloudscape artist David Holland captures these dramatic sky-based scenes with a new exhibit as part of a fundraising art event themed “Shine.” His paintings will be displayed Monday through Feb. 7 at Oklahoma Contemporary, 3000 General Pershing Blvd. Call 951-0000 or visit oklahomacontemporary.org.

A Keene eye

Local shop Guestroom Records has become synonymous with Steve Keene’s album-minded paintings, which appeal to music and visual art enthusiasts alike.

If you wander into Guestroom Records in either Oklahoma City or Norman and aren’t too focused on the jaw-dropping amount of vinyl on display, you’ll notice a particular artist takes up a lot of space on the walls. Steve Keene’s vibrant paintings are frenetic renderings of beloved records, from Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged in New York to Mission of Burma’s ONoffON. They are, without a doubt, one of the store’s best-selling items, with hundreds of his paintings sold to local music and art fans.
