Is it just Chicken-Fried News or is it getting hot in here? Porn queen Jesse Jane has revealed in Aroused, a newly released documentary about adult-film starlets, that the triple-X world evidently saved her from a life of radar-reading.

Would You Rather

Why, yes, I would!

Horror

Rod Lott
That innocent exchange of tough questions becomes Saw: The Home Game in IFC Midnight’s release of Would You Rather. How I would love to have seen an audience react to this in a theater!

Ishtar

Don't believe the hype.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Telling the truth can be dangerous business, but here goes: Time slowly is proving me correct in my long-held assertion that Ishtar is a funny movie. Believe it.

Drinking Games / From the Head

No budget? No problem!

Drama

Rod Lott

For no-budget cinema, the single location is a godsend. Set a movie entirely or mostly in one spot — one room, even — and you jussssst might be able to afford to put your thinly veiled autobiographical story onto film (OK, technically video). Such is the case for two new indie offerings: Drinking Games and From the Head.

A Boy and His Dog

Overlooked in its time, the cult classic is unearthed and given the Blu-ray treatment. Don Johnson in hi-fi!

Sci-Fi

Patrick Crain
There is something truly remarkable about A Boy and His Dog: the ability to remain under the radar despite all its cultural touchstones, owing a debt of gratitude to L.Q. Jones’s adaptation of Harlan Ellison’s novella.

Bruce Lee: The Legacy Collection

Never forget.

Action

Rod Lott

It seems like it was just three months ago that Shout! Factory reissued the four core Bruce Lee flicks that aren't Enter the Dragon … because it was!

The Iceman

Just chill.

Drama

Rod Lott

By now, playing the nice guy with a dark side must be old hat to Michael Shannon, to the point of typecasting. Think of Take Shelter. Think of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. That's how you'll think of The Iceman.

The Frozen Dead

A head of its time.

Sci-Fi

Rod Lott

I've seen many a zombie movie — too many, one could argue successfully — but 1966's The Frozen Dead must be the first in which a member of the undead was so concerned with hair care, Carly Simon probably wrote a song about him. As the pic's mad scientist introduces him, “This one is harmless. He combs his hair continuously, like a vain adolescent.”

Spectacular story

Oklahoma author Tim Tharp approves of The Spectacular Now’s buzzed-about film adaptation.

Drama

Aimee Williams
Tim Tharp doesn’t need vampires, magical powers or a dystopian backdrop to make his novels relevant. The award-winning, Oklahoma-based author’s realism distinguishes him from the bulk of young-adult storytellers.

Cockneys vs Zombies

You can't spell 'yuck' without the 'UK.'

Comedy

Rod Lott
I've been unkind to zombie movies of late, so let me hereby take this opportunity to apologize ... because my ire continues with Cockneys vs Zombies. It's like every other third- or fourth-tier zom-com you've seen (or ignored, hopefully). The only twist, if it can be called that, is the addition of thick English accents and senior citizens, neither novel.
