The Oklahoma City University School of Law is headed for downtown Oklahoma City, albeit not for at least a year. The school on July 13 beat out a bid by Oklahoma City Public Schools to buy the old Central High School building from American Farmers & Ranchers Mutual Insurance Company.

In its first court action, OCU law school’s Oklahoma Innocence Project contends a Pontotoc County man was wrongly convicted of murder.

Shoddy police work and prosecutorial misconduct resulted in the wrongful conviction of Karl Fontenot for murder, kidnapping and robbery. That’s the contention of the Oklahoma Innocence Project (OIP), an arm of Oklahoma City University School of Law, in a court filing that seeks Fontenot’s release from prison after 28 years behind bars.
