Bath Salt Zombies

More than just a tantalizing title.

Comedy

Rod Lott
It’s kind of amazing how far $5,000 can get filmmakers these days, especially when Dustin Mills is in charge of the cash. Having helmed the inventive Puppet Monster Massacre and, less effectively, Zombie A-Hole, he now sets his deranged sights on designer drugs in Bath Salt Zombies. As one could surmise, it, too, sits squarely in the DIY horror-comedy realm.

Holy Motors

It’s a trip.

Sci-Fi

Rod Lott
When I first saw Holy Motors, it was in a way that would make director Leos Carax cry, “Mon dieu!”: on a small window on my computer screen. That’s hardly the proper showcase for a film that set Cannes all abuzz, especially for courting year-end votes from critics’ groups.

Disconnect

Log on for drama.

Drama

Rod Lott
Its technology will be dated hopelessly within a few years, but for now, Disconnect stands as an accurate parable on the dangers of the Internet.

Electra Glide in Blue

The best ’70s cult classic you’ve never heard of.

Drama

Rod Lott
James William Guercio has one of the finest track records in cinema history, because each and every film he directed not only has been great, but became a cult classic. It is titled 1973's Electra Glide in Blue.

Kiss of the Damned

Pucker up.

Horror

Rod Lott
As if HBO's True Blood had been scrubbed clean of all its suds and Southern accents, Kiss of the Damned explores the politics and passions of a vampire community.

Disorderlies

Filmed in 3-D, only the ‘D’ stands for ‘diabetes.’

Comedy

Louis Fowler
As someone who is doing his damnedest to lose more than three decades of weight gain, it has taken years of self-inflicted embarrassment to fully realize that “all you can eat” isn't a challenge, but a curse.

Kings of leon sing about Okie ties

CFN

Gazette staff
While beloved by many, August: Osage County hasn’t exactly won over critics … here in Oklahoma, anyway. It’s fitting, then, that the star-studded film’s soundtrack features an Oklahoma band (kinda-sorta) in Kings of Leon, who, similarly, are as polarizing as the movie itself.
