Letters to the Editor

Wanda Jo Stapleton
All five of Oklahoma’s U.S. Congressmen voted on September 19 for House Resolution 3102, a measure that cuts $40 billion, over ten years, from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps. They are Jim Bridenstine (Tulsa), Tom Cole (Moore), James Lankford (Oklahoma City), Frank Lucas (Cheyenne), and Markwayne Mullin (Muskogee) — all Republicans.

Capital kumbaya

Gazette staff
Who says it’s all vitriol and partisan backstabbing in Washington, D.C.? Well it is, but sometimes our elected leaders set their anathema for those in the opposite party aside and actually say nice things to each other, especially in a time of illness or loss.

The (not so awful) truth

Gazette staff
You know what’s fun? Debunking crazy conspiracy theories. Like, have you heard the one about the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stockpiling ammunition in order to keep them out of the hands of civilians? Because, you know, Obama is a secret communist who’s going to take all our guns away?

Bang, bang!

Gazette staff
Looks like longtime Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn finally has something for the longevity of his service of our country.

Switched on

TV gets weird.

Television series

Rod Lott
Not everything on television has to appeal to mass audiences. In fact, with the further fractioning of viewership thanks to alternatives like Netflix and VOD, more series can afford to become more niche. Here are five examples of shows both past and present — and new to DVD and/or Blu-ray — that encompass some of the more outrageous ideas ever to go beyond boardroom discussion.
