Play ball (again and again)!

Does not include ‘Jim Traber Gets Mad and Chases Guy.’

As someone who watches no more ESPN than the annual hot dog eating contest on the Fourth of July, I’m not a fan of baseball — that’s the one with the bat, right? — but I bring this item to the attention of the many who are.

Next month, Major League Baseball and A&E Home Entertainment partner to knock some classic games out of the park and onto DVD with the “Baseball’s Greatest Games” collection. For the line, rare TV broadcasts of historic games can be relived, inning by inning, pitch by pitch.

The first 10 titles can be scored starting Sept. 6, at $12.95 each. That’s cheaper than a small beer at the stadium, right? And they are:
• “1960 World Series, Game 7: Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Yankees”
• “1975 World Series, Game 6: Boston Red Sox vs. Cincinnati Reds”
• “1979 Wrigley Field Slugfest: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Chicago Cubs”
• “1985 NLCS, Game 5: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers”
• “1986 World Series, Game 6: New York Mets vs. Boston Red Sox”
• “1991 World Series, Game 7: Minnesota Twins vs. Atlanta Braves”
• “1992 NLCS, Game 7: Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves”
• “1993 World Series, Game 6: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Philadelphia Phillies”
• “2003 ALCS, Game 7: Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees”
• “2004 ALCS, Game 4: Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees”

Your favorite game not in the lineup? Don’t cry foul — there are more to come, including September’s release of “Baseball’s Greatest Games: Derek Jeter’s 3000th Hit.” —Rod Lott

Paddling proponent

Murray Abowitz’s love of rowing helped foster the sport’s tremendous growth in OKC.

Sports

Carmen Forman
Rowing is practically coded into the DNA of attorney Murray Abowitz. So, it is only natural that when Abowitz came to the state he wanted to share this passion with others.

Going the distance

Running your first marathon may be easier than you think.

Sports

Malena Lott

Have you reached a certain age (or weight) and decided it’s time to hit the pavement in running shoes? Some take it a step further — and farther — and set a goal to participate in local charity runs and marathons. Five-km races, half marathons (13.1 miles) and full marathons (26.2 miles) become the yellow-brick road for new runners.
