It’s time for D-Wade to ‘pass the torch’

NBA off-seasons can be a little on the slow side. Thankfully, we get the occasional social network feud between athletes to fill the void.

The Big Bus

Get on the 'Bus,' Gus

Comedy

Rod Lott
Beating Airplane! to the punch — but not to pop-culture relevance — by four years was the 1976 disaster spoof, The Big Bus. Only two of the four Airport adventures had taken off at the time and were quite popular, so it's possible audiences at the time didn't have the sense of humor about it as they would today.

The Canyons

True to its title, the film is a void.

Drama

Rod Lott
Paul Schrader’s The Canyons opens and closes with a montage of abandoned movie theaters. For this film in particular, that choice strikes one as symbolic in several ways: not only as a comment on the state of the industry, but on the state of The Canyons itself. You’re unlikely to find many 2013 films this empty.

Wish Lists

News

Gazette staff
What do local notables want this holiday season? Well, Oklahoma Gazette asked ’em. And they told us. Imagine that!  We passed along these lists to Mr. Claus to do with as he sees fit. But for now, we’re reading the list — some of it twice, because it’s that good. We talked to everyone from adult film stars to leading conservative politicians to get insight — and a laugh — from our leading locals. Happy holidays! — Jennifer Chancellor

The Horror Show

No 'Show.'

Horror

Rod Lott
Although the title does not let on, 1989's The Horror Show actually began life as House III, a misbegotten sequel to 1986's hit House. In the end, it doesn't matter, because The Horror Show is every bit as terrible as House II or House IV.

Three Artists All Over the Place is an apt descriptor for the new exhibit from this trio of Oklahoma artists. The works of Heidi James, Sylvia Miller and Patricia Foster are varied in both style and inspiration, with each having unique backgrounds. Check out the opening reception 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Depot Gallery, 200 S. Jones Ave. in Norman. Admission is free. Call 307-9320 or visit pasnorman.org.

LETTERS

Letters to the Editor

Michael Jason Allred
So, Sen. James Inhofe sent me an e-mail today asking me to share my tale of woe and misery due to Obamacare. This was my reply, although I doubt it was what they were wanting.
