'Thunderstruck''s strike two

Gazette staff
Just in time to join lumps of coal in kids’ Christmas stockings, Thunderstruck hits DVD on Dec. 4. The debut movie vehicle for Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant also will be released on Blu-ray, for those cinephiles who wish to best replicate the theatrical experience.

They like us! They really like us!

We don’t know if The New York Times Magazine’s Nov. 11 feature on the OKC Thunder was, as The Oklahoman reporter Steve Lackmeyer proclaimed on his blog — presumably with a stuck “caps lock” key — “THE BEST ARTICLE EVER WRITTEN ABOUT OKLAHOMA CITY IN A NATIONAL PUBLICATION.”

OKC Thunder star Kevin Durant’s movie debut hurts as much as an NBA Playoffs loss to the Miami Heat.

Harrison Lott
Editor’s note: For Thunderstruck, the new-to-home-video family comedy starring the Thunder’s Kevin Durant, it struck us that, since the movie is really aimed at pre-teen and teenaged KD fans, who better to review it than an avowed Thunder fan of that age? A few weeks ago, Hilson celebrated her birthday in Bricktown after the Thunder’s trouncing of the Los Angeles Lakers at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

Kris Glenn is very proud of his Dennis Rodman autograph. That’s a good thing, too, since Glenn will have it on his bicep for the rest of his life.

Hot or not

The past year was an interesting one for Chesapeake Energy CEO Aubrey McClendon, and 2013 is shaping up to be an interesting one for his former partner, current SandRidge Energy CEO Tom Ward.

'Tik Tok,' Russell

Gazette staff
It is hard to imagine electropop party girl Ke$ha taking time out of her busy days to tune into the NBA. This is, after all, the woman who begins the morning by brushing her teeth “with a bottle of Jack,” if her 2009 No. 1 hit “Tik Tok” is to be believed. If that is truly the start of her schedule, it might be a struggle for her to make the evening tip-off.

Five years since its arrival, the OKC Thunder has benefited from more than $139 million in taxpayer dollars.

Clifton Adcock
The sense of community inspired by the Oklahoma City Thunder has captured national attention since the team’s city debut in 2008. From posh luxury boxes to the upper-level $10 seats in the aptly named Loud City, Thunder games amount to a party where everyone is invited.
