A Kaye classic gets remastered.
Classic film fans, prepare to have the hap-hap-happiest September since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny effing Kaye!
That’s because Kaye’s arguably most-beloved film that doesn’t involve a white Christmas, “The Inspector General,” earns a collector’s edition from Shout! Factory, due Sept. 20. In the 1949 musical comedy, Kaye plays an illiterate doofus mistaken for the title person by a town’s corrupt officials. They try to kill them. Yes, that’s right: assassination attempts mixed with musical comedy.
Shout!’s disc features a newly remastered print of the film, 17 minutes of color home movies taken on the set, and the 1938 comedy short “Money on Your Life,” in which Kaye also is chased by people who want to kill him. I’m sensing a pattern. —Rod Lott

From 1958, “Cry Terror!” wastes no time, doing its best to earn that exclamation point. Even as the opening credits are still going, two men talking spell out practically the entire plot:

In general, I prefer the films of Guillermo del Toro that he doesn’t direct (“The Orphanage,” “Splice”) to the ones he does (particularly “Hellboy” and its sequel). That holds true for “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” which he only co-wrote and co-produced, ceding the director’s chair to newcomer Troy Nixey.

" dredges up all those dreadful
memories of that overly affected anti-style.

Mandy Moore deserves better than this rom-com.

In a better world, the beautiful and talented Mandy Moore would be a huge movie star, rather than the marginal one she is. With little exception (“Saved!”), she’s cast in projects beneath her talent. “Love Wedding Marriage
” is the latest.

KSBI puts its ‘I’ on Oklahoma.
When KSBI 52 calls itself a local television station, it means it. The channel’s fall lineup abounds with programming that isn’t just locally produced, but promotes local happenings.
KSBI’s new schedule includes:
• “Mind Games,” in which Oklahoma college students compete “in a battle of the brains” for scholarships worth $200,000;
• “High School Football Updates,” with live broadcasts of two to six games every Thursday and Friday night;
• “All About You: After Dark,” a Kealey McIntire-hosted talk show focused on fashion, fitness, health, careers, finance, music and more;
• “Oklahoma Live,” featuring local music, artists, actors and more, hosted by Lyn Hester;
• “OK Sports Wrap,” a sports magazine hosted by Mary Rachel Redman and Abigail Ogle;
• “Rodeo Opry,” shot in Stockyards City, airs some of the state’s greatest country talents;
• “Hollywood Spotlight,” hosted by Dino Lalli; and
• “Dog Talk,” about man’s best friend, hosted by Pat Becker.
